Travelers Should Expect Big Changes at Reagan National Airport Soon

Major updates are coming to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport this week that will change how travelers find their gates.

Officials will install new signage throughout the airport beginning on Saturday, June 4, as a way to make navigating the terminals, parking decks, and new facilities easier. Airport authorities said they will roll out the changes over the next week.

The airport released this timetable:

Saturday — New directional signs will go up around the airport to lead passengers to their gates.
Sunday, June 5 — Airlines will switch over to using the new signage. Locations of gates and airline desks will not change.
June 6-10 — Road signs at Reagan National will point drivers to Terminals 1 and 2 rather than Terminals A, B, and C. Signs for parking lots will be updated to Parking 1 and Parking 2.
The new concourse that opened last year will be named Concourse E.

As an example, Gate 23, which is in Concourse C, will now be Gate C23, Reagan National officials said in a press release. The new alphanumeric gate designation changes will be on boarding passes and information screens throughout the airport.

Anyone traveling next week through Reagan National should check their ticket and familiarize themselves with these changes before going to the airport.

Terminal 1 – formerly Terminal A — will contain Concourse A, which serves Southwest, Air Canada, and Frontier airlines.
Terminal 2 — formerly Terminal B/C — will contain Concourse B, which serves Delta, United, and Alaska airlines; Concourse C, which includes American and JetBlue airlines; and Concourses D and E are for American flights.

“We believe these sign enhancements will assist travelers moving through the terminals,” said Vice President and Reagan National Airport Manager Paul Malandrino. “With new facilities constructed as part of Project Journey, updating the signs airport-wide became the next logical step to help passengers navigate the airport. Our team has worked hard to prepare for the conversion of over 1,000 signs.”

Road signs may not be updated immediately, the news release said, so travelers should look for airline signs to help them navigate to the correct terminal until officials complete the transition.
